PAALAM Youth Network
Paalam, meaning “bridge” in Tamil, is a project initiated by Auroville and established in collaboration with the Bioregional Coordination Group and Youth Link instills unity between Auroville and the local villages.
Udhayam Women’s Federation
The formation of the Women’s Federation is an important step towards self-governance and empowerment of the Women’s Groups by transferring decision-making and administrative duties to the members themselves.
ABSCA
ABSCA is a collaborative initiative with different units in Auroville and the villages (AVAG, Auroville Sports Resource Centre, Dehashakti, Paalam, etc.) that is committed to promoting solidarity, team building, and removing inequalities through sports and cultural activities in the bioregion.
Community Events
Experience Auroville and the Neighboring Villages
This experience promotes collaboration between Auroville and the neighboring villages. We believe that to achieve unity and solidarity, empathy for each other’s reality is imperative.
Women’s Day Celebration
Women’s Day celebrations are also held in the villages by women’s groups in various ways. Different groups in a village join together and organise collective celebrations which include performances, games, and sports that bring them closer together and discuss the issues they all face.
Women’s Solidarity Festival
One of our biggest events is the Women’s Solidarity Festival is attended by more than 6000 people from the bioregion and Auroville to share a day together irrespective of their caste, class, or nationality, and to stand united in a celebration of the Female Spirit .
Financial Inclusion
Since 1995, this program assists women and men’s groups in ethical and fair practices of lending, trains them in financial literacy, and provides opportunities for income generation through enterprise creation.
Intercaste Exchange Program
The Caste system in India is among the world's oldest forms of social stratification. The system traditionally divides the population into rigid hierarchical groups and dictates one’s life from birth.
AVVAI
AVVAI
Started in 2015 with a grant received from Motherson Systems Sumi Limited, the AVVAI - Access to Education program is a sustainable financial model to support girl’s education by creating opportunities, typically outside of some families' financial reach, and empowering them through supplementary training programs.
Summer Camp
The AVVAI Summer Camp gives students access to a curriculum that is creative, joyful, and participatory. This event aims to support students to realise their strengths and potentials by creating a safe environment to express their opinions and values.
Collaboration with the Schools
This program aims to encourage and support children studying in the government schools around Auroville. These children are denied opportunities and encouragement at a young age.
